Heart of the Snow Maiden

I was actually saving this one for February 14th, when it occured to me that it would also fit nicely into January's sub-zero scream theme. From the Feb. '53 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #40, and featuring art by Harry Lazarus... oh, this ACG issue also contains the very cool story "The Soul Collectors" that I posted back in Oct. '07, one that the ever amazing Batton Lash of Wolff and Byrd fame actually wrote to me about!

NEXT: Are you ready to "Flash Forward" with Bram Stoker?!

Interesting, just stopped by for a millisecond to see who or what is going to inspire me today with my little creative brain.

One of my favourite Yokai is the Yuki-Onna. These stories are reminiscent of it. Keep 'em coming!

The front view of Snow Maiden's boyfriend was reminiscent of Iger shop art, as was the scene of her breaking apart and her boyfriend's death.
Ice King reminded me of Stan Lee's Marvel monsters of the late '50s.
The view of Snow Maiden walking away was absolutely Ditkoesque!
Oy vay, what a great story and so funny in its campiness!
We need much more of this!

THE CAMPINESS IS KIND OF DEFUSED BY THAT GREAT SAD ENDING THOUGH.

REALLY GOOD POST, THE LAZARUS ART IS SWEET, THE MONSTER IS KIND OF GOOFY BUT COOL AND THE ICE MAIDEN IS GORGEOUS..........I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO SEE A SEQUEL!

The Ice King has a heart?

Why does the Ice King appear a bit melted, but the Snow Maiden is of perfect form?

So she fell in love with a human. "They are wrong who say my heart is cold! For you, it burns like a crystal flame!" *rolleyes*

Enjoyable, though.

And yes, I'm ready to flash forward with Bram Stoker. :-)

"Honey, I have a great idea for a romantic getaway...a village in the middle of the Alps where everyone was tragically and violently killed in an avalanche!" How sweet of ol' Gil.

I love how Ella sees Gil having a conversation with a woman made of solid ice and instead of being absolutely freaked out by this fantastic phenomenon, she only feels a loss of love and lets them be.

Very Marvel monster feeling on this one, as one of the above posters sort of pointed out. I'm also ready for a flash forward this weekend. Thanks as always, Karswell.

Haha, you guys ('n gals) crack me up, thanks for the comments so far on this one.

And FYI: This weekend's Flash Forward is something different than the usual, but I think you'll enjoy it none the less!
