The Hungry Lodger

Happy Murdered Turkey Day everyone. I do hope that you’ve arrived here hungry today, hungry for HORROR! And if not, then go out and burn some dead leaves or run around the cemetery a few times or something... work yourself up a real good appetite--- and then hurry back!

From the June 1952 issue of The Unseen #5

La Cabellera (aka Return of the Wig)

And for those of you who enjoyed The Wig story that we presented on Monday, here’s a neat peek at a couple of pages from the foreign re-make version courtesy of my friend Carlos Federici way down there in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Carlos explains: “…I found significant coincidences between “The Wig”, which appeared recently in your blog from the Spanish version of “This Magazine Is Haunted” #14, called “La Cabellera”. I think the art belongs to Bud Thompson (who is also known by having illustrated some “Captain Marvel, Jr.” adventures.) The first, second and final pages are attached; sorry about the bad shape of the scans, but it happens when comic-books are bound in thick volumes.”

Thanks again for the scans Carlos... I would certainly love to see more foreign re-make comparisons such as these of any pre-code horror stories... and if you THOIA readers like this sort of thing too please let us know.

URK! What I want to know is, where did all those LITTLE ones come from? Was "Mr. Foster" SHEDDING them everywhere?

And ain't it funny how in some stories a fella can get himself put away in the nut-hatch for reporting animated corpses and whatnot to the authorities, and in other stories he can tell the cops there's a GIANT CATERPILLAR LIVING ON THE THIRD FLOOR and they'll haul off and start chopping down the door without any further evidence at all?

Just like LIFE, eh?

Sigh, another harmless monster is killed by "The Man." Actually, this is perhaps one of the most potentially beneficial monsters I've seen; aside from the fact that the guy is a giant caterpillar (which perhaps makes him another contestant for that 'lamest monster' title), it sounds like Foster was going to save the diner via his orders!

I love how nothing is really explained here, it just enhaces the mood. Happy Thanksgiving!.

Haha, good one... but in case you wanted to see a turkey that actually did die in the making of something check this out:

Also, I appreciate all the new faces / commentors around here lately as well, so welcome aboard the THOIA Horror Express ya'll! It truly makes blogging that much more fun when multiple voices are heard, as well as thoughts exchanged, mud flung, opinions shared, wankers ridiculed etc...

And I do hope everyone has a safe and happy t-day, and I'll see ya on Black Friday for another Super Spooker.

Nice one. Who would have thought that this is a monster story?

I also like how they didn´t explain everything. Here this was fine.

Oh, and happy thanksgiving to those on the other side of the ocean.

PRETTY COOL STORY, AND WHAT SMILODONNA SAID ABOUT THE LAME FACTOR IS FUNNY. YOU SHOULD DO A THEME WITH THE LAMEST HORRORS OF IT ALL SOME TIME.HA!
GUESS I'LL BE THE FIRST TO SAY I'D LOVE TO SEE FOREIGN REMAKES OF PRE CODE STORIES TOO. CARLOS, MAYBE TAKING A DIGITAL PHOTO WOULD BE EASIER AND PRODUCE BETTER RESULTS THAN SCANNING?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!

Certainly a lot more questions than answers in this one (?). . My guess was once they'd broken the door down they were going to find Mr Foster's shed skin and some giant Mothra type creature. Pretty wacky story though.

What if he reverted back to human form like a werewolf usually does? All toasty and squishy. And the lil' ones? His kids?

Thanks for the great blog. I should be helping my wife in the kitchen, but instead I'm glued to THOIA trying to catch up on some older posts!!
