The Thieves

Mr. Door Tree and I have apparently had another unintentional mental connection this week as I’ve been planning a Matt Fox story for over a week now and on Wednesday he began a spectacular multi-posting of Weird Tales covers and even a couple stories by Matt Fox himself! So after you read today’s sci-fi horror classic here, make sure to head over to the Golden Age Comic Books Stories blog for more works from one truly mad genius!

From the March 1954 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #27

Karswell,

Many thanks for this post! I had never seen this Matt Fox story before and seeing it is a real treat! That splash panel is terrific!

Wow! Fox's style really lends itself well to sci-fi stories, and the plot was really well-handled.

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying today's post. I also must repeat that it's essential you head over to The Golden Age Comic Stories blog and check out the other Matt Fox stuff that Mr Doortree has on display. His Fox tribute lasts until Sunday with more additions to come so don't miss a single post! And drop him a comment or two as well, thank the man for all his hard work and love of sharing.

As if the Polarians could tow the sun away and the earth would somehow stay behind, unaffected by the sun's gravity? Furthermore, why would the Polarians bother to communicate with denizens of earth before hitching up? Finally, the text so overwhelms the visuals that the visuals seem superfluous. This story offends what I consider basic principles of good sf writing and sequential art. Thumbs down on both counts! I am unfamiliar with Matt Fox, but I hope Mr. Door Tree has some better examples of his work.

Okay now, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Please keep the squabbling to a minimum. The comment was constructive and explained why it deserves a thumbs down. If it just said something like "Matt Fox sucks" then we could all pounce on the bird like werecats.

Odds are nobody will read this because the post is stale now. I intended no disrespect to Matt Fox in my previous comment. I looked on Mr. Door Tree's site and I thought many of the Weird Tales covers were wonderful and the other strips well paced. Where there's room for his art on the strip that is the subject of my previous comment, it's effective and atmospheric. It reminds me a bit of Basil Wolverton. Not sure who came first, but probably Matt Fox.
